PLASMA TECH - THE NEXT GEN QUARANTINE SYSTEM

In early February 2022, four organizations including the Korea Materials Research Institute (KIMS, President Jeong-hwan Lee) held a business agreement ceremony at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, to strengthen their joint project implementation.

The KIMS is a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT and had established a plasma technology base with Korea Technology Co., Ltd., Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., and Bluelight Co., Ltd.

The Material Research Institute has developed a plasma air conditioning filter technology that inactivates the COVID-19 virus aerosol with oxygen active species and an electric field using dielectric filter discharge technology. This overcame the prior limitations of plasma technology in the air conditioning industry, where material technology by integrating plasma air conditioning filters and ozone removal catalyst material.

In addition, through the 'Public Pathogen Removal Material Development Project', roll-to-roll ion beam technology is applied to polymer filter materials used in various products to coat copper nano-thin films to maximize antibacterial and antiviral properties. The technology has also been commercialized.

Through this MOU, the KIMS will support the commercialization of plasma prevention and air conditioning material parts and support the demonstration and product certification network. Bluelight will commercialize the technology as a material technology transfer company for plasma quarantine and air conditioning products. Hankook Technology supports the development of plasma air conditioning systems and quarantine systems, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering plans to apply plasma air conditioning and air conditioning products to construction sites.

President Lee Jung-hwan said, "This business agreement is a joint project for the establishment of a plasma technology-based quarantine and air conditioning system.
