Pachinko, An Epic-Sized Family K-Drama Taking the World by Storm

Apple TV+ drama Pachinko debuted last month, and early critics' reviews indicate the show is an absolute must-watch. Based on the 2017 New York Times bestselling and beloved novel, the story tells of a Korean family who immigrate to Japan to find a better life.
Since its release Pachinko has received critical and audience acclaim with a 98% on Rotton Tomatoes. One reviewer writes, “This is an unfinished epic, and I look forward to another chapter.
Throughout its eight immaculate episodes, "Pachinko" weaves a beautiful and profoundly moving melodrama about a matriarch's perseverance to maintain her national identity, and the long-lasting, devastating effects of colonialism.”
What is novel about this series is its high level of production, entirely Korean cast, and an across boarders story that travels over time and space to tell a truly global tale. While Netflix is currently the primary home to Korean based television content (such as recording-breaking Squid Game) the global hunger for international storytelling continues to grow. Streaming giants are taking notice, a recent report revealed Apple was one of five companies vying for the show. Investing in original Korean content like Pachinko is proving to be a winning formula for a long time to come.
