Cooling Heat Island Effect and Reducing Airborne Dust - Inbebo

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 12th of July 2021 that it will operate the 'Cooling Road', which lowers the road temperature and reduces fine dust, until October of 2021

The “cooling road” is a water spraying apparatus installed in a series of small square fixtures along the center line of the road, which cools the hot road and helps keep fine dust from becoming airborne. The city sprays water from the cooling road at least three times a day to lower the road temperature in midsummer from June to September. In April, May, and October, when airborne particulates are more severe, it is operated flexibly according to the fine dust warning.

In Seoul, cooling roads are installed in a total of 13 places including City Hall Station, Gusan Station, Hyochang Park Station, Balsan Station, Jeungmi Station, Deungchon Station, Magoknaru Station, Isu Station, Jongno 3-ga Station, Jongno 5-ga Station, Junghwa Station, Janghanpyeong Station, and Geoyeo Station in a total of 13 places 3.5km it has done.

Lee Jeong-hwa, head of the road management department in Seoul, said, "By spraying water from the subway station to the road surface, it is expected that the asphalt road temperature will be lowered and airborne particulates  & dust generated from traffic will be reduced.
